Every drawer becomes a tiny time capsule. You'll uncover receipts from stores that don't even exist anymore, random pictures from people you don't even remember anymore, love letters from your ex, your first tooth, hair ties that mysteriously multiply, and at least one object that makes you stop and think, "...What even was this for?" There's always that one mysterious cable, too. Nobody knows what it belongs to, but I know all the though daughters out there will refuse to throw anything away. It always feels like tempting fate. Who knows if I will ever need any of this stuff? We can't take risks in here.
Then comes the absolute worst part when deep cleaning, the part that seems avoidable but is actually impossible to avoid: the "this looks worse than before" stage. Every surface of your home is covered in piles because you had to take everything out before putting it back. For about thirty minutes, your apartment resembles the aftermath of a very polite tornado. It's a trust-the-process kind of situation. Take this advice from someone who has extensive deep cleaning experience: never, ever, convince yourself you're finishing tomorrow. If the motivation wore off, continue until it comes back. Waking up with your room upside down is not the first thing you want to see in the morning, believe me.

And despite all the ups and downs, there is something quite enjoyable about a deep cleaning session. Maybe it's opening the junk drawer and actually finding scissors on the first try. Maybe it's making your bed with fresh sheets or finally wiping that mystery fingerprint off the bathroom mirror. Or maybe it's standing in the middle of your newly cleaned room with your hands on your pockets, admiring your work as you've just completed a home renovation instead of reorganizing a sock drawer.
